making my own stop!

hi there,

I am new to the forum and I just started to shave with a straight razor.

I am the kind of guy who likes making things rather than buying, and a strop looks like a perfect project, the
only problem I have are the swivel rings, just can't find any decent size and quality one! does anyone know where should I look for it?

Do these look strong enough or what you are talking about?

Something like that, but with a D ring on one end, wide enough to hold the strop width.

For a simple approach, you could install a brass grommet at one end and then tie the strop to a doorknob/hook with a leather lace. Good luck with your project.

Tandy leather had the D rings I was looking for, but at £9.50 each + 7 (s-e-v-e-n!!) delivery I was, ehm, slihtly unconfortable with that! :D So I found a brass belt bucle bigger than the D ring, and I started to call it handle instead of buckle and looking at it horizontally... BEAUTIFUL!! money invested in it: £1. Even more beautiful... then I bought two brass hinges which I will fit to each end of my strop. I just need some brass rings and swivel hook, and my luxury strop will be done and ready to hang in my bathroom. And then will be followed by more sister strops to sell.

If you are in an area that has a West Marine, they carry a lot of hardware for sailboats that could be put to use. I am not usually a big fan of blowboats, but they do have some really cool hardware.
