Are you talking for pasted media or just a fabric strop. For pastes it's fine as a plain fabric strop there are better materials like canvas.
Polyester Canvas, Sail Cloth or Pellon, fabric fusing/stiffener, work exceptionally well.
You can attach D rings, with Iron on fabric tape or sheets, no sewing needed.
That iron on glue is some strong stuff, never had one come apart yet.
A yard of either or both will make a gang load of strops.
Or you can buy 2 inch nylon and or polyester strapping from fabric stores for a few dollars a yard.
Fabric stores are always having 50 percent sales.
Just need a couple 2 inch D rings

With canvas you don’t have to finish the edge, just cut with a sharp knife or shears.
You will, have a few loose threads, just trim with shears and the weave will tighten up and the fraying will stop, not like denim.
If you use Polyester Canvas, DO NOT use a match to burn off the fraying, you WILL have a nice bright torch in seconds… and a lot of dancing…
With cotton canvas, you can use a match.
