I picked up a small loom strop that I want to replace the leather on. The leather on the strop is about 1.2mm thick. I have some veg-tanned calfskin that is about .8-1mm (2\3oz) thick and wondering if that would be to thin or if I should just get some thicker stuff to use. The stropping surface is about 7"x1.375". Any suggestions would be appreciated.
It may be, what texture if any does it have?
Otherwise Roo leather is strong and works great for strops also
The calfskin is smooth.
I would expect that calf skin that thin would stretch out quite easily. You could try to see is it has the strength to not stretch out. Keep in mind that the piece that is on there is already stretched out a little.
