Tripoli Boar-hide strop (Barber Supply Co)
Hello All!
Just wanted to share my impressions on something that i received last August 8th (yeah just out of pure coincidence it was my Birthday :) and such a great Bday "present"!) right in my mail!
this is a strop that many of the forum members have tried and used... a few months back during a discussion about fire hose strops , i saw Tom (he likes the new synthetic fire hoses for strop and i prefer the old natural linen ones) talking about his Tripoli strops and pm him to see if i could get one... so anyway, here's the result...
first i must say that while i still prefer the linen, I'm impressed with the polyester linen fire hose he uses.. it is way software than linen and i still have to test more, but first impressions are really positive :)... now, to the meat:
T boar hide vintage NOS Tripoli strop from the old "Barber Supply Co." ... oh man, i never tried again a pig or boar hide strop, but this is really really super high quality... after a few laps i was already hooked to this wonderful piece of history... I'm actually ready to put it on my rotation, right next to some of my shell strops... it's solid... slick, just with the right amount of draw... and when stropping it feels like it actually sucks the blade in.. like if you were stropping on a magnetic strop... buttery... creamy... oh man.. love it!
as you can see in the pictures, the hardware is sturdy, not like some of those cheap clamps that the cheap strops have nowadays... and i think i know whats his secret weapon!!!
A complimentary strop sock was provided to protect the lovely strop from dust... i think it's a super nice detail and i really like the fabric (yeah he gave me some choices, and i liked this autumn red pattern)!
All in All, this is a super nice piece of US history that is in such a great shape, that i actually felt nervous at the beginning... of not cutting it by any mistake... because it's pristine, and i know he took a good deal of time to condition it perfectly...
leaving some pictures for you... I think me might have a couple more if I'm not mistaken.. quality never comes cheap, BUT.... i think it worth every penny he wants to charge for them :).. and Just in case, nope.. he did not ask for me to post this... but i just think one shall give credit where credit is due... and also, some of you guys might also want to benefit b adding this to your strop collection
thanks a lot for the opportunity of this deal Tom!!!
