Hello,
What is the best type of glue that can be bought at a Wal-Mart or hardware store to seal a nicked flap on a strop? I've used super glue in the past but it sets way to hard.

Rubber cement works well. There are leather glues around too. As long as they remain flexible once they dry they should be ok.
I've used Duro Contact Cement and it worked well. You have to let both surfaces get tacky, and then you get one shot to align them correctly. Lay on a flat surface and hit the glued area with a hammer handle or something like that to get any air out of it and to really bond the surfaces. We used to use it when I was a pro carpet installer on various applications and it is very good IME.
Its interesting on these vintage shell strops they are hard leather, but yet flexible. When sanding is 220 grit to low to resurface the leather? 400 leaves a to glassy mirror surface.I also read that one can use a glass bottle to roll, flatten and break in strops. I'm a little confused on how the SRP library explains how to do this. Is it best to roll a bottle on the strop while hanging, or while flat on a table? Do I roll on the working side or the nonworkin side?
