Makers signature?
Attachment 283931Attachment 283930Attachment 283929Attachment 283928Attachment 283932 Hello everyone.. Hope everyone is doing well. So a few months ago I come across this vintage The Electric Cutlery Co #250 paddle strop at an antique store. To my surprise both sides are in good shape just needed a little Neat's on the leather. It works great but don't use too much except for a couple razors that that really seem to like this strop. I was using it on one of those razors the other day and I dropped the strop and the leather side flips open exposing underneath. Thankfully the 3 tiny original tack's stay in the leather.. As can be seen in a few photos there is a name printed in pencil on the wood handle. It's hard to make out the last name just because of writing but wondering if that is a QC signature, maker signature, etc? It is a women's name with no numbers, dates, stamp, just a signature. Just a quick look at this and you can tell it was never redone or opened up before so I'm assuming it wasn't the buyers signature.. Anyone have a guess as to it being assembler/QC signature from company? Thanks for any responses... Scott

Very cool!!
It looks like it reads "Katie Murphy" that old script is very hard to read

My wife said she thought the last name is Murphy also. Looking at it through a 10x was still hard to decipher.. I'm not even sure I'll tack it back down. Like you said I think it's pretty cool..

"Old script?" To me that looks like normal cursive writing, which of course is quickly becoming a mystery to younger generations.
I think it is just as likely that the signature is that of the owner rather than the maker.

And it looks like they were practicing.

Abandoning cursive. That concept began for me back in Jr. High (1963-1964). We were taught to print, all capital letters for daily writing applications. It has stuck with me for over 55 years.

Funny I graduated high school in 97 and all of our writing was cursive. As others have said above it looks like modern cursive and says Katie Murphy.
