How about an old shell from the family that makes the Kanayama 70k? They are even better! Tc

It makes my heart swell with pride to see this picture, it is sweet, and by the way the scratches are slowly disappearing, no razors shall touch it again until it has passed very a sacrificial strop first to see if burs are present. Tc

Great thread! Love the strop porn!
If I may, Toroblanco, I might get a few pics of some of mine on here this weekend. Lots of us have some sweet vintage strops to share.

AFAIK, we don't have a dedicated thread for fine examples of vintage leather. This may be the thread?

Just looking through here loving these strops... wheels are starting to turn... thinking I need to invest in another strop soon... spending money in my mind before I even have it!

That first or second picture at the beginning of the thread with the light shining on the surface of the leathers, all lined up next to each other, man you can just see the good quality there. Like Tom said, makes a guy want to strop!

Funny, when this site started back in 2005 or so there were few places to buy new strops. Tony Miller was one of the few. I guess others existed like Kanayama but they were unknown to the masses and there were few vendors selling them.

So, most of us bought vintage strops and back then you could easily pick-up NOS samples of all the great ones for a song. I guess it's much more difficult getting really good vintage pieces these days however there are loads of sources for new strops in all quality ranges.

Personally, I think the vintage pieces are the best.

    In proper condition, I agree.
It is disappointing as some buy a strop stamp as some buy a tang stamp.
A toasted strop is worthless as is a toasted razor..
Save the dough and buy one which has been cared-for.

Tom, a used vintage Kanayama can go for more in Japan than a new one!
Here's a thread where JimmyHad shows his vintage shell and compares thickness.

I'd love to have a Red Imp. I'm always on the lookout but to no avail
