Yes, nylon fire hose makes an incredibly effective strop, I have found.
Some don't like the 'feel' as it is fairly zippy. Has worked a treat for myself.
Some say car seat belts work nicely.
For the most part I am not a fan of zippy strops, but the are effective. Some of the vintage strops had zippy linen on them.

I don't really like them either but yes, they work. I prefer flax linen fire hose and hemp fiber. Check out hemtique on ebay. They have 3" hemp fiber that is totally Hadassah and cheap. Some say you have to pound hemp fiber webbing but I have not with this stuff. It is soft like cotton but, BOY, is it aggressive.
