Have been offered a seal skin one and was wanting to know if someone has experience of them. I know they make good razors, but never heard of strops though!

I've got a vintage strop, not seal though. Nothing special with the strop and there are others I use before that one. I also know I don't approve of how seals were hunted and killed.
For my money I would go with an SRD Bridal or latigo. I use the bridal strop almost daily and the latigo is CarrieM's so I just sneak a use here and there. Just kidding, I like the Bridal a touch more but both are great strops.
Buy it!
Is there really any other answer?
I understand the warranty is void if seal is broken.
I've got a few vintage (used) dubl duck strops. Condition is the key here. If it is in good condition they are excellent strops. FWIW, there is or was a dd sealskin strop on ebay. In looking at the photos I noticed that the strop is labeled sealskin but is also labeled 'shell'. Shell is horse butt so whether it is one or the other is open to question. I am thinking that it is a horsehide labeled sealskin for marketing.
I have a vintage shell i use every day
I have a couple. Remember DD did not make the strop it was made by some major strop maker of the day. The ones I have are both horse and they work great. I did have an old sealskin strop and it worked fine . It wasn't a DD it was from some barber suppy outfit in Salt Lake City.
I have an old DD #50 horsehide I got in 1968 that ended up being pasted with .5 micron CrOx after watching the Bill Ellis video.
I also have an old DD #70 horsehide from about the same year that had three very small nicks along the near edge. This strop got sanded down to a suede texture to get rid of the nicks. I use it as I would a linen strop and it seems to work. I don't often use it though.
I have never heard anything bad about anything DD... Jerry
