Home-Made Strop 4 Pics

Here is a strop that I recently made. It has a tin, that is for my personal use. I have no clue as to what the cloth portion actually is, though it feels like old school burlap like was used for fertilizer sacks. It seems to work well, though its hard for me to tell. My razors are already honed to the HHt prior to stropping. The leather is vegetable tanned leather dyed black and has a very nice surface. It has brass Chicago screws and 2" D's. The cloth is riveted, sown and wrapped to prevent unraveling. I would love to know your thoughts. This strop was cut 3.5" because of the width of the cloth material. Its easy to use, though I am sure it might be considered too wide. I would also like to know the best way to test a strop.

Looks good Trey... i'd guess that the best way to test it is with the shave test, then repeat... repeat... reapeat

Very nice workmanship! The cloth section reminds me of the strapping used to support cushions on some wood frame chairs I've seen. Where did you get it?

I got it at a local cloth store in Hartsdale, NY. This strop has been sent out for testing. We'll see how she does then. She worked great for me, but then again I am biased.

I would have been happy to test drive this nice looking strop. You could have sent it with my razors I sent to you for honing :beer2: Anyway nice looking strop can't wait to get my razors back.
