I recently purchased an antique strop. The leather is cracked and in some places has little bumps all over it. Is there any way to save this strop or is it just trash?

I have a strop that is newer, but I have a few bumps in it as well...... any ideas?!
You have to get the cracks out and the bumps out so it depends how deep the cracks are and the bumps too. Probably sand the strop with some very very fine sandpaper or a pumice stone to remove the bad surface. Maybe the underneath is still good.
Here's hoping you didn't pay very much..........Try a little tough love. A green scrubby pad, you know the type, and some saddle soap. give it a a good scrub, then let it dry. If its still bumpy, hit it with some sandpaper, maybe a 320 or 400 wet/dry. Then try some neatsfoot oil or even some vegetable oil to restore some softness. I'll bet you end up with at least 8 or 10 inches of usable strop. If you decide to punt, then maybe its a strop for some CrOx, or maybe you can try just dressing it with some soap to add some draw.
Have some fun with it, its just an old strop. Possibly it could be applied to someone's backside if nothing else.
