I would recommend wearing gloves. I read once that the powder might be harmful, though I don't know for sure it is better to be safe then sorry. You can get latex gloves at most stores for pretty cheap.
The chrome ox we use for pasting strops according to the MSDS sheet is non toxic, non lethal, is non carcinogenic, not flammable and is non combustible. It is considered a potential irritant to the lungs or skin. I believe any .5 micron powder if inhaled could be considered a lung irritant. When you mix it with oil it becomes a very effective paint and will stain your skin.

how about mixing it with mineral oil and applying with a paint brush?
Has anyone here tried the Thiers Issard CROX paste that is available? Is it the good stuff?
I mix CrOx with mineral oil and paint on balsa wood strops with a paint brush, or with a gloved hand like finger paints. Lately, I am experimenting with spraying CrOx onto balsa wood. (I think this will work well when I have it worked out.)
thanks for the help guys!
