Default SRD Modular Paddle Strop Thoughts and Suggestions

Okay, I'll start this by saying that there's probably no "wrong" way to use the pads on the modular strop, but what are some suggestions? I've got one felt pad sprayed with the diamond spray (works great!) but for the life of me I can't commit to pasting the roughed leather, or the other felt pad with my cromium oxide.

I'll ask the pro's what do you think works best with which pad? What is a best use scenario for the roughed leather pad (in your opinion). Does it make sense or is it even worth it to strop on plain felt? Love this paddle strop btw.

I don't have one of those SRD modulars yet but I will get one sooner than later. I have a HandAmerican flatbed hone with Chrom-ox on felt that I like real well. If it was me I would put the green stuff on the felt and mess with the rough leather clean. I have an old HandAmerican strop with on side rough and no paste or anything on it and I like what it does with some razors. The beauty of the SRD modular is you can add another piece of leather or felt whenever you want.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Just to add my two cents...I have a flatbed and have used a split, or rough leather pad with CrOx paste with pretty good results. I happen to like the diamond spray on felt better for most razors, but would suggest you try a light application of CrOx paste on the leather pad and see what you think. That is the beauty of the modular strop (as Jimmy pointed out). You can try different things and build up a good arsenal of pads in the process.

I've actually used the SRD paddle quite a bit, and have one in the mail... Here's my take on it, my personal method

I would recommend putting .5 micron diamond spray on one felt for touchups, and keep one felt unpasted, keep the scrub leather clean and keep the premium Clean. The way I'd do it is to use the UNPASTED felt as a pre-strop (like a linnen) for it's abrasive, microcleaning qualities. Then use the scrub leather as a heavy pre strop, then finish stropping on the premium I for that perfectly finished edge. Then, when you need it, you can touchup on the diamond sprayed side.

That's just my preference with it... I wouldn't CrOx the scrub leather... I'd wait until the Nylon pad came out and crox that, or just make a nylon crox hanging strop...

    Hope that helps. Any questions?

    Cheers.
    Jeremy

EDIT: Also, your signature line: Awesome. Loved that graphic novel, and the movie was pretty good too. Nice adaptation

That's actually the setup I'm using right now, and will probably settle with that on the current run of pads. Looking forward to others being released but I'll probably eventually get a Premium I pad to CrOx and play with. Glad you guys "get" and dug my sig. Jeremy, if you can't tell from my Avatar I have a thing for zombies as well. It was with a heavy heart that I recently shut down my movie review site thezombiereview.com.

    Pity :/ Zombies are great

I know that the Webbed fabric is in the works for this strop, I'd wait until those are perfected, and CrOx one of those... The SRD webbing is phenominal for Chromium Oxide. Also, I am pretty sure other leathers are coming out for the Paddle (Premium III and Bridle, and what-not)... God this paddle just has so much potential can't wait to get mine this weekend!

Yep, I haven't been this geeked over something in a while. And when the main gist behind that something is that it becomes several other somethings well... Right now I have a tiny Herold strop (over) pasted on the linen side. I have a 3" red latigo Tony Miller I've left completely plain (and intend to keep it that way) so I'm excited to add a canvas/linen component to the modular.

What do you mean when you say "OVER" pasted? Because I am part of the party that says you can't over-crox a strop, you can just do too many laps... I like a nice, heavy shaded green (I use a CrOx crayon) spread nice and thick... So....

Also, yea, the paddle is just great

Well then! Disregard. By the wiki standards I've seen, yeah it's pretty much over pasted, but going by your standards, it's perfect! I still use it when my razors start tugging and it works fine IMO, but yeah I definitely broke the "easier to add than take away" motto I normally live by and went with "more must be better." EDIT: I too have the "crayon" I got from SRD.
