Howard Cushion Strop
Picked this up a couple days ago, it looks to be in pretty good shape for what it is. I was wondering if pasting it would get it back to working order or is there something special I need to do for it. Thank you.

I don't know what you mean by "pasting it" but the general definition on SRP for pasting is putting on an abrasive paste to aid in sharpening/honing... If that's what you meant, that will not really recondition the strop... I would recommend you either A. Lather on the strop with a good glycerin soap. See where that gets you in cleaning/reconditioning. If that doesn't do the trick, try saddle soap, that should get the remaining grime out. If it still feels dry or too stiff after that, add just a LIIIITTLE bit of Neatsfoot oil. Only a little, though. Let that sit overnight and see where you are.

Well hell, the person I bought it from suggested pasting. Should have known better than to trust people not on here. Thank you so much for the advise.

Not at all, Master Ghost. When the seller suggested paste, he might have meant a leather conditioning paste/oil... The term paste, at least here, denotes abrasive pastes like Diamond, Chromium oxide and Cerium oxide... Could jsut be a difference in terminology.
Any other questions, feel free to PM... It'll make Western Civ that much more tolerable :p
Cheers,
Jeremy

For dry leather, I've had good luck with mineral oil from the drugstore. Rub on hands, then rub into the leather. Use it sparingly, don't slather it on.

try lather. let it sit until it dries and then wipe it off
