Recomendations

So I seek out the years of experience here at SRP once again. I am in the market for a new strop. I have been using the filly from RupRazor now, and I am glad I started using it. But I have found a few things that I want from a strop. a ring/handle/ect for holding and keeping it taught, a linen or comparable fabric component, and I think I want something around the 3" size. Now given that I do not want to break the bank (more razors to buy :hmmm:) any suggestions on a decent 3" strop with a fabric component?

I would visit the strop review forum and make the choice based on that. I think we have covered most strops in the market by now. Tony Miller's (if available) and SRD's strops come to mind, obviously.

Thanks Robin, those were 2 of the places I was seriously considering. And I understand that I do not want to make a WTB type of thread.

One thing I have notices is that Tony Miller is currently on vacation...and I am kinda torn between waiting, or going with SRD's and I am open to suggestions from strops I may have missed.

Well, there are other strops in there as well. One that comes to mind, but does not fit your bill at all, is the Old Traditional. Best leather I have ever used (haven't used the Kanayama 90k, though). But it does not have a linen/webbing side, is about 2.5" wide, and almost twice as expensive as an SRD Premium I (my favourite daily strop with the webbing component). Cheaper strops fall short somewhere, usually craftsmanship. That does not make them worse performers, but I like my strops to feel good as well. ;)

As Robin mentioned, there are better strops at higher price points, but, in my humble opinion, they aren't /that/ much better considering how much more expensive they are -However, I have yet to try the "Old Traditional"... But I really want to-

Excellent suggestions given already, Tony Miller's and SRD strops along with HandAmerican have a very good reputation. I am no strop expert but I have an Illinois 827 that has given me almost 2 years of uninterrupted service. This strop is a Russian strop, one where the back of the hide is used for stropping, but they also make 127 which is identical in size with the shinny side used as stropping surface, These strops can be purchased for around $32 to $35. Not sure if this would fit your budget.
