I've heard alot about this paddle and I've been wanting to experiment with keeping my razor sharp with diamond spray or chromium oxide but did not know exactly which or how. Now I know exactly which and what paddle to pair them with. to reconfirm, if my blade is extremely dull i use the Chromium paste (on rough leather) and if it is not quite dull (but not extremely) I use the diamond spray (on wool felt). Then strop with the smooth leather. Sound about right? Thanks for a great review.
You are welcome.
If the razor is extremely dull, you need to go to the hone. When the razor is just below the level of shave ready after you stropped it on leather, you either go to the diamond paste or the cromium oxide. Some swear to cromium, some to diamond. The great thing is, that you can experiment and find out what YOU think works the best.:)
so would you ever use chromium oxide and paste together in a rotation or prob not?
Very nice. Thank you for sharing. And yes, I cannot wait to get mine. :)
I am not sure what you mean.
The cromium oxide is 0.5 micron.
I havent used it much, because I am trying to learn the diamond sprays, and they give great results. But the idea is to always move to a finer grit, so I could go from the 1.0 micron diamond spray to the 0.5 cromium, to the 0.25 diamond spray.
Or I could go from the hone to the cromium, and then to the plain leather.
But I am really not the one that can give you the best advice on this, there are more experienced users here, that can share their knowledge with you. I am simply following Lynns advice, which is to use diamond spray on hard wool felt, because he believes that it gives a smoother edge. I will take his word for it!:)
Got you - I understand now about the moving to finer grit within the pastes and sprays. Thank you. Now I just need to get one. ;)
Some find diaamond pastes i don;t no about the srays give them a harsh edge so by following up with cro.ox this will take the bite out of the edge. I no lesss is better with diamond srays and paste . Lynn only does 10 light laps on his .5 spray in his video.
will stropping on plain leather (many laps) also take the bite out of diamond spray?
My dear, Thomas:
I am impressed with your video.
Your tone is warm and conversational, your eye contact good. The product description is comprehensive and exceptionally well done: it is clear and easy to understand.
Your work is quality stuff. Thank you you.

Obie
Great review! Thanks for filming that..! :tu
I'm going to have to get one of these, they really are a brilliant bit of kit!
Good job on the review Thomas.
I have watched all of them you have done, and you always do a fine job.
Makes me want to run out and buy a modular paddle.
My first order getting into straights I bought a Dovo 4 sided paddle and loved it. I still use it all the time.
It helped me learn how to keep even contact on the paddle which helped when I started honeing
I think that it is easier for a newbe to use the paddle since he does not have to worry about how tight to keep the strop. He can focus on even contact with the blade.
If the modular paddle had been available then I would have bought it instead of the Dovo 4 side.
Thank you for the review.

+1 great review. you've convinced me to go on another shopping bender. Cheers
I'm seriously thinking of getting one just to try the .5 diamond spray. so the edge is all good with the sray jimmy ,what dkifferance do you find it gives to the edge smoothness and slightly keener? how many laps are you doing . I have read some fokes say it is harsh . I should imagine if you over do it you will have harsher edge >so less is better .
Try adding felt to the diamond spray as a foundation, this takes out a lot of the bite that you get when you put the spray on a stiff paddle strop. Lynn and some of the guys do that and it works well. Some other guys on here spray it on denim, I haven't tried it yet though, I hardly ever use pastes or sprays, I prefer the hones and just a stropping for sharpness.
I have to say it's one of the best gadgets i have seen.
Thank you for the kind words gentlemen.
The thing is, that I like to do these videos from a consumers point of view. Therefor it means a lot to me that you guys (other consumers) find them usefull.
:gl:
Great review Thomas keep it up :)

Is there a video on how to apply the spray, and wait time and after drying some actions to do?
Also how do you clean the felt from time to time, is it even needed ever? I guess it would be to remove some swarth.
Thanks
Thanks Thomas! I actually bought one of these recently, but haven't used it yet. It was suggested to me since I had a blade that needed the edge refreshed. I think it would also be a little easier for newer people to learn on than a hanging strop which I currently use (and need to fix a few tiny nicks in :gaah:). As you said it is a great deal for something that doesn't have to be dedicated to one material/paste/spray and is easy to replace pieces on if you ruin one.:beer1:
Very nice video
Lynne did a Dovo 55 for me and I have shaved with it for 12 days waiting for the TM to arrive and when it did I only used the linen.
Continued to use the same razor another 4 days
Then the paddle arrived
30 passes on the rough
30 on the Premium
40 on the Bridle
Kept shaving 3 more days
Under lighted 10x magnification I have 2 teeny tiny notches on the blade-
Finally used the felt that I sprayed lightly, dried, repeat when it arrived
There are very few hone scratches on the edge
except these little boo boos
Made 15 passes on the diamond felt
then back to the leather progression.
Most of the boo boos are gone but not all.
Will try a shave with it again in the morning-
Otherwise its to the 8K stone then back to the leather progression.
Not sure if anyone got to see my reply on the end of page 2 since a new page started after that, but if you could check it out and help with my questions I would be glad.
Thanks
Sproose-
I'm no expert with paste of any kind but here is what I did-
I was afraid to get it on too heavy or to accidentally get it sopping wet-
So-
Lay the felt down (felt up) and from about 8-10 inches
Nothin in this is exact it just lends itself to nice coverage
Starting on one end give the first 1/3 of its length one pump,
then the next third and then the last.
I wouldn't try to do it in one pass=uneven
Once the first coat is on it set it aside to dry overnight-
Run your straight over it the next day up and down-ONCE
Is there any dust on the blade? If so your done
If not, repeat.
I did it three times and get a little dust so I am done for a good while-
Do not over use the diamond paste- its not needed very often.
