Take my word on this... Please!

When someone comes into the room/starts talking to you. Stop stropping, put the razor up, and only resume stropping when you can give it your attention.

This is my sad story...

Today, I had a quasi-bad day, so I decided to hone a razor to take the edge off... Yeah, that's my release. So, after a successful (I think :rolleyes:) dilucot session with my newest addition, it was time to strop and test shave.

So, in the middle of stropping (as I just switched to the English Bridle), my bubbly 2 yr old comes in to "visit" with me.

"What doin' Daddy?"

"Stropping, Gavin"

"When I get big, I SHAAAVE!"

"That's right!"

"I shave the soap off my FAAACE!"

"That's right Gavin, and I'm going to teach you how to shave."

"I gonna shave like DADDDY!"

That was pretty awesome...

Unfortunately, I didn't realize that during that little exchange that I flipped the razor in my hand. So, as I went to resume stropping, I sliced it like I was trying to peel it. This isn't some newbie nick. This felt like when your widdlin a stick or something... And I'm talking initial rough cuts taking chunks out...

Immediately I knew what happened, and my stomach just sank. I felt siiiick... Like I was going to throw up.

But, I showed my wife, with a shameful look...

"What's the big deal?

"That's a big mistake, an expensive strop, and I'm going to have to get another one"

"So"

"you don't care?"

"No, you have spent so much on this stuff...what difference does it make?"

"So does this mean, I win?"

"Yeah, there's no reason to fight over it..."

So, moral of the story:

Spend enough on shaving gear and eventually the nagging stops :roflmao

I read your story to my wife in order to continue to acclimate her to the concept of spending ridiculous amounts of money in order to save money on shaving!

Sorry to hear about the strop :(. But I think it's a cheap price for the following BIG pay back:

Your son is officially a convert...it's a done deal buddy. He grows up BEING a str8 shaver, not wanting or learning to be one.

That is HUGE!!! I think most of us (well, at least me), stumbled upon this str8 shaving thingy at some point or another in our lives and are learning by osmosis, and trial & errors.

Gavin, is now genetically programmed to be str8 shaver.

On a different note: it seems to me, that we need to have a forum called a "str8 shavers' wives club" :roflmao. This is where the wives would compare notes, and perhaps your wife can chair/moderate that forum?

PS: During my periods of RAD behavior, my wife has been extremely supportive...very amused, but supportive.

Sounds like your little lad is all set to shave the right way when he grows up! I wish I'd started out with straight razors, it would have saved me loads of trouble with razor burn and all the rest of it that I used to get with cartridges.

I keep hoping that if I spend enough on shaving gear, people will stop noticing... Its not happened so far, which tells me one thing: I've not spent enough yet. :D

Man that sucks about the strop. As for your son, Lynn beat me to what I was going to say, so I'll just echo his sentiments. Enjoy your new strop and your life with what sounds like a great kid.

I only have time to shave with straights on the weekends and my son (almost 3 now) likes to watch. He'll be ready when it is time! :D

Having been married twice , and been in more than a few "relationships" , I've learned a little bit about women , the hard way . When you think you've won , and the nagging stops , you had better watch out ! :gl:

Great story Paul! I have a friend who deliberately butterknifed a razor for his son to "shave" with him. He got choked up telling me the story about how they were both at the mirror shaving "together". His son is about 4.

It seems your son is a challenging one :)

I'm not worried about her stopping the nagging... Our marriage literally has never been better. :)

But, yes, I'll have to teach him to strop better than me :rofl2:
