I currently have a two sided strop that I am not using. One side is pasted with green paste, however, since I purchased it on the classifieds, I am not sure if it is Dovo Green or Crox? I realize that these are two very different substances.
What is the safest way to go about completely removing the green paste to reapply Crox? I could avoid any issues and just paste a piece of balsa, but I do not want the second side on this strop to go to waste.
There is no way no completely remove the paste. It embeds itself into the material. You can get most of it out. I know this has come out before and materials have been discussed. I think someone once mentioned gojo or similar. It also depends are we talking leather of linen. If its linen you can really go to town on it with scrub brushes and chemicals even high pressure steam and get just about all of it out. With leather your more limited.
Usually a leather pasted strop is considered a permanent thing. If your repasting with a lower grit you can probably get away with it but not higher.

If hes not around, just try it on a razor thats starting to get dull. You should be able to tell which one it is pretty easily.

Green stuff is going to be Chrome Oxide. There are multiple
grades... start with the finest you can find first...

So yes cleaning is a good thing.
