Kanayama Strop

Well, I finally broke down and pulled the trigger on the Kanayama 90000.
As luck would have it, they're having a sale....!
I'm looking forward to it, I've heard lot's of good things. I talked to Jim a little via email. They're also doing different color stamps on the strops now. Blue, Green, etc..I stuck with the Gold. I think it looks good.

I've heard members on here talk about razors with etched/worked spines leaving scratch marks on the strop? Anybody have any input...?

More like little blemish marks Rich.

Happens on all strops. Bootiful strops dude!!

I've got a couple of customs with worked backs that have scratched a strop. That is now my default strop for those kinds of razors. :) I have the 90,000 and I take it out of the box and look at it every once in awhile. I may strop a razor on it one of these days.

You'll love the Kanayama. I have a lower end model (thus thinner leather), but can confidently say, they're gorgeous strops with a light smooth draw...

You are going to be very happy you purchased that strop! I have a 60k that I adore. Not only are they beautiful to look at and touch, they perform as you would expect a strop master craftsman's work to perform. Excellent choice. And Jim is great to deal with.

I have the 70000 and it is very nice. I was all bunched up when I made my first few passes, I can only imagine what the 90000 is like. Nothing but the best. Have fun.

Rest assured, you will absolutely love it!
I have the 90000 as well and it is my favorite strop now.
A few of my customs are too hard on strops to get the Kanayama treatment, so they have their own strop now.

Lynn actually said it best, they are blemishes. I ran my Boker 7/8 Celebrated on my Kanayama 10k and it looks like scratches but it is in fact just a blemish. When I ran my Dovo Micarta on it, there was a nice zebra look to it for a couple of days until I stropped a few more razors on it.

I've scuffed my strop and doing the palm of the hand thing also helps over time to take the scuffs out or at least blend them so they are not noticeable.

Hi Rich,
I am sure that you will have nothing but a love affair with your 90K...Nice strop...

I ordered the 80K model from Jim this past Sunday during the sale...I am awaiting its arrival (in transit now)...I cannot wait. I heard so many good things about this strop, I feel like I should frame it rather than use it :).

But reading about people who have theirs and how happy they are, I am sure I will like mine.

I am sure it will serve you well for years to come. Use it and enjoy it.

You should save your money and not buy the infant and baby sized models. You should go for the model 1,000,000. It's so thick they had to glue hides together to make the strop. It's so special you have to complete an application and undergo a background check and physical exam.

I recently ordered the 60k from Jim, and am waiting for it to arrive much like you are. I'm sure I'll just look at it for a while too.....

I SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO want to make the purchase on one of these strops. For the price though, Im afraid that some of my customs will eat it up. I have a Hand American Cordovan that I hardly use because of a razor that left some kiss marks. I wish you all would put more pictures up though :)
