Strop Placement

I just got my first straight and strop last week: Boker King Cutter and 3" Red Latigo Strop from SRD. I have a ring screwed into a stud in the bathroom to secure the strop to and leave it there.

I got out of a hot shower today and there was quite a bit of steam and started wondering if that would affect the leather strop. I am probably being overly paranoid about taking care of my sweet new straight shaving equipment but was wondering if I should be worried about the steam from hot showers messing up the strop. Usually only 2 showers a day, me and the wife; unless we have company in town.

Any thoughts are appreciated.

Maybe you could talk your wife into showering with you? :)

I have an enclosed bathroom with no exaust fan. It gets pretty steamy in there, I keep my razors and strops there as well. The Razors I keep wiped with a Tuf-Coat impregnated micro cloth that keeps rust at bay. The leather strops seem fine. I have the strops treated with a small bit of Fromms strop dressing.

Also, if you treat your strop with some oil, I'm sure you definitely won't have any problem; you can also just rub your palm on it once a day for about 50 strokes. This puts all the natural oils from you skin into the strop.

That should alleviate any deterioration the excess moisture might have.
