THanks Guys! I just used some saddlesoap and the strop is nice and soft. It makes almost no sound at all which is weird since I'm used to a nice consistent stropping sound

That's what I love about straight razors, there's a whole hidden history to the equipment... oh if leather could talk.
Yeah, I'm pretty sure this one was used by a barber at one point. It looks like it would have been a quality strop back in its day.
I thought SRD was rewarding such milestone by providing a free strop :P
Ironing is not a crazy thing to do. I ironed both my Kanayama and my Tony Miller strops at low temperature to iron out little uneven patches with no deleterious effects whatsoever. I would never recommend something I would not do to my own equipment.
Low temperature and a slightly moist towel between the iron and the leather are essential though.
Haha will do :P
That strop looks to be in good shape as it as. I think the daily palm rubbing would suffice. A perfectly usable strop doesn't need lather, neatsfoot, etc.
Now if you get a vintage strop that is on its last legs and rough shape, then that is a different story since you are trying to 'save' it
I would never put an iron to my strop.
