I'd look for a stud. Use a screw in hook and put it about elbow height.
you can use an expansion wall anchor
Amazon.com: Hillman Fasteners 2Pk 1/8Xs Wall Anchor (Pack Of 10) 5 Anchors Hollow Wall Expansion: Home Improvement
it is for dry wall use only I believe.
should be able to provide a few hundred punds of support.
Hardware store hooks as mentioned or you can google razor hook strops and get a hook designed for strops in brass usually sold with boat supplies: Razor Strop Hook hooking up to a stud is always the best option if possible. Edited to add your question is in no way stupid. Feel free to ask anything here.
have your offspring hang on to the other end...
Hey, Chief.
'Don't know what kind of clip you have on the top of your strop, but the cheesy little ones that come on most will actually slip over the top of a door hinge pin. With a screwdriver or low value knife, tap the top of the pin up about 1/4-1/3" see if the clip will fit over the hinge pin head. If so, you're done. If not, you can probably remove the pin, slip it through the clip, and reinsert it into the hinge. Solid, out of the way. Cost effective.
I have an S Hook that fits on my towel rack/bar and my strop hangs from that
I simply have a short length of rope with a sliding loop that I attach to a doorhandle when I need to strop.
I thank you all, as usual, for the outstanding posts and advice. It's great to hear how other people are doing it.
I (actually my wife) found a VERY temporary solution until I get a hook or whatever. The strop is a 3" "premium" from VintageBlades. Came highly recommended but the hook and the ring with it are too small to allow attachment in my home, except for....don't laugh....the toilet paper holder. The little plastic job that's mounted in the wall. Gave it a few test tugs to make sure it will withstand the constant applied pressure and it worked well.
WAY too ghetto to use all the time, but works well enough so I don't have to wait for a strop hook or such before I can start shaving.
