questions for the panel

Gentlemen, I have a couple questions.
1.) I have used the webbed side of my SRD latigo for chromium paste. I am almost out and would like to try diamond, just to see the difference. I don't presume there are any problems with just spraying the diamond on over the old chromium linen? Can it be washed out other wise or should I just consider investing in a new one.
2.) I'm sure this has a thousand takes on it; what does the linen/webbing do for the razor outside of carrying a paste?
3.) Lastly, can I use a pasted strop linen to make a manufacturer's edge shave-ready or do I need to use a stone?
I appreciate all and any thoughts you may be willing to share.

1. mixing the two will probably result in no difference in edge polish than the lowest grit rating paste. In other words, if the chromium is lower grit than the diamond, mixing diamond in there shouldn't create much of a difference. I would invest in a new linen.

3. a manufacturer's edge will need to be made shave ready with stones.

For number two I would suggest searching because this is a topic that is misunderstood/debated by many.

1.I try not to mix compounds as they all feel a little different to me.
2. Straight webbing does have an affect. I would not have any compound on my daily strop. The finer points of stropping are vast and in my experience a freshly honed, razor feels terrible; one that has been honed and just stropped on leather feels much better, but is lacking a smoothness; if a full stropping progression is done properly it gives the greatest edge for my face. Yes, I can feel if webbing was used or not; at least I perceive it as such.
3.You need to use stones to properly set a bevel (at least from my experience) this is a stone based forum, there are others that use strop paste progressions to sharpen their razors. I don't like it, but that is my preference.

My preference is to leave my daily driver unpasted or sprayed. I reserve the spray for a hanging SRD felt and my chrom-ox for a flatbed felt or my Livi Loom canvas CR-O impregnated strop. Just what I like, YMMV.
