Would using .25 micron diamond paste followed by chromium oxide improve the edge much after finishing on a 12k naniwa ss?
I used to use the CrO after my Naniwa 12K and thought it to work absolutely great!
The CrO is usually 0,5 micron, so it would seem better to use that first, then the diamond paste of 0,25 micron.
However, I know a lot of guys find the diamond to leave a bit too harsh an edge, so they use the progression you just described.
But in short, yes, any of those two pastes will add to you edges keenness and or smoothness.
I wouldn't see the need to do that. .25 Diamond can leave a very harsh edge and the CrO is really all you need. So skip the Diamond and just use the CrO. I think the edges you would get from the two are very similar minus the harshness so they are redundant.
Just for experimentation try the razor, after stropping, off the hone. Then try it after chrom-ox, and then try it after .25 paste. IIRC the chrom-ox is 5 micron so I suppose .25 paste would be the last in the series. FWIW, chrom-ox or paste has improved some of my edges but I usually just shave off of the hone. I always strop before the shave though.
thanks again for all your help i think i will buy both.
