I prefer linen but cotton works well too.
Linen for me . Why ? Just because I like it . It's tougher than cotton , and more abrasive IMHO .
I like linen. I think that the combination of linen and a cordovan shell strop works best for estra full hollow razors. It may be that I am partial to this because it is what I have always used. I have not expiermented with many different combinations so some other types could work as well or perhaps better. I just stick with what I know.
If you look at history linen was here in the states before cotton became king.
Once cotton became king linen was premium.
If you have one, try the other.
Note that the linen/cotton of an Illinois strop
is treated and not the same as a classic
fabric that does not have the plastic like sizing.
To me, they both work just fine and I wouldn't pay more for one or the other....
I am more concerned about the leather quality.
