Believe it or not, I routinely condition my strop on my dog's back. I have a bird hunting dog (German Short-hair Pointer). And, probably once a week or so, I just rub my strop on his back and use a little bit of his oil. The result is a nice draw on the strop - if thats what you're looking for. I also rub it a little with my palm to smooth it in a little. I also have wiener dog, but I think he's just a little too greasy; I've opted not find out either way (why mess with a good thing).
I understand and appreciate the concept of "to each his own", but dude, yer crackin' me up! LOL
Well, both dogs are of German descent, so I guess you're shaving with a Solingen made razor. The only thing that might work better is maybe like an English Setter for your Sheffield steel. :D
You could always use the wiener dog to condition a travel strop.:)

Really, I'm not kidding...I tried lathering the strop too...works great...but for in between conditioning I really think it works very well. That is, if you want a little bit of resistance on your draw.
