I think you sell a strop short by trying to give someone the "final word" on how it performs. Every style of strop is the ideal one for somebody, as evidenced by the fact that there is a market for all of them. My feeling is, don't make the process any more confusing than it is. Simply state why a seasoned user might opt for a latigo, or a cowhide, or a horsehide, or a kangaroo hide strop. I'm two years into straight shaving and the one thing I have learned is that I need some basic instructions, then have to practice, ask my own questions, and find my own way. There are cases where more than one thing is right for me, too, and I just have to choose or decide to switch around. Sometimes I pick something because a member I admire uses it and it works for me. A glut of information sometimes raises more doubts and questions.:aargh:
