Hey guys,
I'm in the market for my first "good" strop. Just curious what people prefer about either a traditional/cut end strop or something with grips and rings. A quick search didn't turn anything up, but feel free to direct me if this has been discussed :)

A classic barbers style is plain. Having the grips makes it easier to hold but unless you have issues with your grip it's really just personal preference.
I personally like having some sort of handle for a couple reasons. One of the biggest one is how I grip a non-handled strop, I make the leather wave. This makes it hard to strop! And It is a much more secure hold for me with a handle.

Have both type and actually had the 'handle' off of an unusable eBay buy stitched on to a nice vintage horse butt that was the square barber end type. Had the modification done by an experienced(old'er than me) shoe repair man. He did a really nice job, but in the end... Like the ones With Out handles better.
I like a handle. I prefer the strops from SRD. They are breath-taking. Although there is an initial learning curve I like an impressive strop and think a good strop is money well spent. I'd take a good SRD strop without a handle over almost anything else though. If there was one acquisition disorder that made sense to me, strop purchases would be it.
Yea, another with a preference for handles on a strop. I have long arms and can use every inch of a 20 inch long strop. I appreciate not having my fingers near the blade when I flip it.

I like a D-ring, though I chopped my favourite strop with a d-ring handle and the others I own have handles. That said, my new Tony Miller is pretty sweet with a handle. I might try throwing a D-ring on it and see how I like it.
Thanks for the responses, guys! That's about what I thought. I'll probably end up with a Tony Miller with a handle of some sort. I appreciate the posts!
