My new custom strop...
Seeing I was going to make a Strop, I wanted something "industrial" style. A little steampunky looking. I like "old" things from the turn of the century so thats how I designed my new strop. First I wanted a nice silky feel to it. So I "lightly sanded" the leather with 220 then 320 grit and a sanding block to remove all the gloss. It really brought out that nice leather smell. The stropping area between the studs is 19 1/2". I think that is plenty seeing I tend to have a consistant 16" stropping stroke. With the "heavy duty" hardware I made you can really give this baby some tension, taking the belly out for a nice straight stropping surface. She's silky smooooooooth... Last pic is of strop cleaned and Fromm's conditioner applied which brought back that nice black color... Here's a few photos for the forum. Hope you like them.:p

Very nice, I really like the industrial look. I need to have a look at making my own at some point as my one & only "beginners" leather only strop doesn't have any draw since I had to sand all my early stropping mistakes out of it. I've given it time & repeatedly treated the leather with Dovo Leatherbalm, but the draw just isn't coming back. I know it still works, but I like draw, & wouldn't mind something with a canvas backing & some extra width.

Looks Great! I really love the steam punk look you gave her. And the T handle you put on it, she looks good and strong as you mentioned. Thats one of my next projects is to make a hanging strop, as I've only made paddle ones to this point.
Thanks for the pictures,
Respectfully

This is a 3" wide strop. Being extra wide is a big plus... Glad you like it.

Nice job, I've always wanted a handle on my strops similar to your idea. Very cool man.
