I keep hearing about how improper stropping will damage an edge I don't doubt that, however I have yet to see a magnified photo of an edge damaged by stropping. I would like to see a before and after pic of the same edge if someone has them can you post them or point me to a link containing such photos. Thanks. I think it would be beneficial.
I don't have a photo of a damaged edge from stropping but if I did have one, it probably would show a broken fin in various places along the edge due to improper pressure between the strop and the razor edge. The sharper the edge, the thinner the edge and consequently, the more likelyhood of the edge being damaged due to excessive pressure on the strop.
I hope somebody comes up with some photos so we can lay your fears to rest.

For a rolled edge I want you to picture taking a thin piece of metal and bending it. Even if the edge will not bend, or if it does, it can break off and you end up with a very jagged piece of metal in the place of the cutting edge. Visualize a serrated knife blade & trying to shave with it...just on a smaller scale. Pick up one of those cheap RadioShack microscopes & pay attention to your razors edge: What it looks like when a razor shaves well & when it doesn't. This will help you to truly know what is going on.
If you are a honer, deliberately roll an edge and look at it. All it takes is that split second to damage the edge...then the only thing that will most likely fix it is taking the blade back to the stones.

This shows how an edge should look ,so from that you should be able to decide what it should not look like.
I don't have the wherewithal to post such photos, and I've never rolled an edge. If you have a microscope or a 30x eye loupe, and some extra razors you could do your own experiment in rolling an edge and checking it out. Alternatively, if no one comes up with the requested photos, and you don't have the fore mentioned magnification, how the razor shaves should give you an indication of whether you have a rolled edge.
The pin test is a really good one for this problem,, watch this Vid from Toxik it explains many of the sharp tests very well I think you will find them very useful

If you want a rolled edge, this is an image of a blade dulled on glass (with only the weight of the blade). I have been told this can be stropped back to shaving status.Quote:

I remember talking with Lynn about razor edges a few years back. He mentioned that some full hollow edges are not much thicker, at the apex, than a sheet of tin foil. Mighty delicate in spite of the hardness. I reckon they refer to it as a "rolled edge" because it is truly a rolled edge. :shrug:
is interesting to note,how some blades need to be stropped in a differant manner.am a palmera fanatic,extreame, full hollows,bellied
You lay them on the leather to hard,the edge will be toast in 4 strokes,have to go real easy with them.
