Apply to a folded paper towel and wipe on evenly and sparingly. A little goes a long way. Wait at least a day to absorb and test. You can add more if needed, or remove by resting on paper towels face down to wick off.
Thanks for the quick reply just one more thing the strop that i have is a 3" wide "BIG DADDY" Strop from shaving supplies with a canvas back now i have read on other sites that this strop is not that brilliant I am quite willing to get better one but i don't which one?? ( I am no expert on this on this sort of thing ) It must be 3" wide and should it have a canvas back Can buy from USA if needed many thanks
FWIW, I never had to oil a "new" strop. Usually just a rub from your hands (natural oils) is good enough. Neetsfoot oil will change the draw or drag, and possibly the color of your strop. Once it's done, you can't undo it....So, proceed carefully....
I've restored old vintage strops before, and they needed cleaning with saddle soap. Once cleaned, I'd retreat with neetsfoot oil.
Yea, I wouldn't be oiling a new strop. It should be conditioned and ready to go out of the box. it's only down the road if the strop starts to dry you may want to use a tad of oil. barbers used to just use the oil in their hands.
As to who to buy from, if you read a few pages in this forum you will see plenty of comments about quality strop makers and vendors.
As already said, Oil is not needed. It can ruin a strop!
It has its uses but should only be used very very sparingly.
Enjoy your new strop as is for a good time before you use anything on it if at all.
