Need advice concerning fabric strops and Chromium Oxide

First off I want to say that I'm happy to be a part of the SRP community, I'm still pretty new to straight razor shaving, but I'm getting more involved everyday! Any help from the more experienced shavers would be greatly appreciated.

I'm looking into ordering a strop from SRD and I was wondering a few things.
What's the difference between the
fabrics? (hard pressed wool, matched web and premium fabric)

Which fabric is best for chromium oxide? And is the crayon or spray a better option far as Cro-ox goes?

Also, can anyone recommend a good strop? I'm looking at the 3" premium Buffalo, Roo and Premium IV English Bridle. They all look like great strops that would provide years of great service, but alas I must choose only one. Any recommendations or replies to any of my questions would be hugely appreciated, thanks for your time! :-)

The wool works best with the chromium oxide and diamond sprays in my opinion although some like it without any treatment to be used the same as the poly webbing or premium fabric. The premium is a cotton webbing. Some people use the poly webbing or cotton webbing prior to stropping on the smooth leather.

The crayon chromium oxide can be used on the back side of the smooth leather, on the poly webbing or on the cotton webbing. Just a light coating works well for refreshing the razor or at the end of a honing regiment.

The English Bridle is one of the most popular strops out there. The Buffalo has a heavier draw and the Roo is a thinner material. Both of these also produce nice results. A lot of personal preference comes into play with strops.

WOW!! Straight from the man himself! Thanks so much for all the info Lynn, this is really going to help me pick the right equipment for my shaving. You shall definitely be recieving more of my business on SRD :-)

Which one are you going to get? The modular paddle strop?

I'm getting the 3" premium English bridle strop with a hard pressed wool fabric strop :-)

If you haven't ordered it yet, I'd go with the modular paddle strop. It's an amazing product, and for what it comes with, it's a steal!

I tried a 3" Premium English Bridle about a month ago when another member brought his over. It was a very nice "sweet" draw.....not too much, and not too little, and I like very light draw! I think you'll like it a lot. Paddles have a place, and I have one, but it gets 1/100th the use of my hanging strops.

I used an English Bridle for more than two years and in the last two months I jumped around to other strops but I am ready to return to the English Bridle. It just has a nice feel to it when stropped on lightly for 50-60 laps.

I rub mine occasionally with Palmolive shave stick just to add a bit of tallow. Don't know if it actually helps but I do it anyway.
