thanks seraphim. is there any interest in a lathering video? (would contain instructions for uber-lather, soaps vs creams, how to use a scuttle, travel-safe lathering equipment, etc.)

I'm glad someone found a place in a progression for the Col. Conk hone so many shops sell noobs who don't know better.
For reference what was the total honing time for that razor.
By the way why EXACTLY was the candle right behind you lit?:gaah:
1. total video time + 4-5 extra minutes on the 8000 grit. but note that the razor was in very good shape, it only needed a touch up.Quote:

Neat videos! I like the vertical strop. Mine is horizontal at elbow height. That might make it easier to use a light touch (since no weight bears down on the strop).

those are great tutorials, especially the honing parts.
I second the two layers of tape for 5/8 and 6/8 to create the double bevel.
For wider blades, I add one layer more.
(Nice knife, BTW:))
I like that you use less "typical" hones, and that you manage to get obviously great results without all those costly ponds and hone fixtures I've seen on so many Youtube vids.
Regarding the stropping lesson, I have a question. Do you strop on the CrO before every shave? Not meant to criticize, I'm just wondering.
A think Shampoo 's lucky with such a devoted honing mentor.

no. only as a final stage of honing. usually i strop on linen, then leather. CrO only if i've been using the swatyQuote:

:OT Slightly OT this, but I notice you aren't shy of wiping the whole blade clean with a cloth, including the edge (at least it looks that way.) I've always avoided doing that, and used a light stropping motion on a cloth/towel whatever to deal with the edge itself. Am I being a bit too paranoid? I've noticed people like Mastro Livi do the same thing as you Jockey, so you are in good company. :cool:
not OT at all. I am wiping the edge, but I am gently pinching it between thumb and forefinger (and towel) which places no more stress on the edge than stropping.Quote:

thanks for the vids jockeys great demo the more honing vids the better, ive got my stropping pretty much down now, heres an idea for a vid..."how to properly paste a strop" ive seen people make xs' with the diamond paste but ive never seen it in a vid.. id love to see a leather strop pasted completely green.

I've never bothered with pastes before. Once you've smeared it on the leather, is it there to stay, or can using the strop a lot wear it away and bring it back to normal?
Also, are you still working on growing your facial hair design? If so, what does it look like now? If not, I don't blame you...why deprive yourself of shaving so much of your face with your sharp-as-hell razors? That just ain't right! :D

Love the new restoration videos. I got a dremel and two practice razors on the way. Hey i was reading that you were thinking about doing a video on soap vs cream and how to use a scuttle. I think that would be a great idea. I have been looking around about this exact topic but everything i seem to read says it 's really a personal preference on what you use but they never really get in depth on how to properly use it. (scuttle and soap)

it's hard to describe. "sticky" is how most people describe it. if the razor isn't ready to go to the next hone, then you will spend a lot of time using the next hone with almost no effect.Quote:
