Some sharpness tests

Here's another video I made of some non-standard sharpness tests I use. These are tests that don't require one to develop a feel for them. They're more objective than subjective. They only really tell you if the razor is dull or not, they don't really let you know how sharp a razor is.

Awesome, Jason. Light reflection is the only way to see the edge with the naked eye and your interpretations are excellent. You taught me something very useful and definitive here today.

AFAIK the 'pin test' is new. I actually use my fingers to feel for a wire edge. I just thought something with a sharp point or edge would would be easier for those who can't feel a wire edge like I'm able to.

Incredibly useful video. Using your light tests sent me to the hones for 5-10 minutes on what I had thought was a sharp (which, in fairness, it was) razor. The improvement was so impressive, many thanks.

I used to test my knives that way with a finger nail.

The pin test is something I never even heard of before. Great video, very informative.

Toxik, you have quite a knack for making great videos. If you ever get around to it, a video of you working a blade from butterknife to your HHT positive would be fantastic. Your HHT, BTW, is about the most amazing one I've seen yet. Really hard to argue with results like that. Wow.

I actually do have a series of honing videos that i made more than a year ago. Only the first one is on youtube though, the rest i put on dailymotion as a few of them exceeded youtubes time constraints. Links to the rest are in the one on youtube though.

Actually, if you guys want, next time I hone a razor I can probably make another short vid on some of the different techniques I use for that as well. They're all in my aforementioned honing videos, but spread out through the like hour or so of video there.
