First post - new to sight but long time lurker here - just picked up a Western Cutlery Co. (Boulder, CO) straight at a local antique shop for $6. plenty of rust but no etching on the blade and the scales are warped - black celluloid I think. I figured I'd give this one a go before getting into restoring some of the more ornate straights I have collected over the years.

Should clean up and make a good shaver. The 214 was listed in the 1921 catalog as a 5/8 with black Pyralin non breakable handles. Same as the 914 that had white handles.(scales)
Western made some good cutlery.

I didn't know exactly how old this one was other than western didn't start in CO until 1911.
Is there a way to straighten the scales or am I going to end up making my own new scales? I've thought about making my own laminate scales or maybe some koa wood or similar. at this point I'm open to suggestions...
