I was working on my little forge/furnace today and at one point was cutting steel with my angle grinder. Somehow, the metal chips scratched the windshield... I've never seen that before.
Anyway, the forge survived the first firing but I'm not sure it is getting hot enough with a cheapo propane torch.

Have you tried MAPP gas, the stuff in the yellow containers?
I was actually a plumber many moons ago.. Map gas is the way to go burns a lot hotter than propane.. Home Depot carries it is a yellow bottle as stated .. And it will fit on the same torch attachment
It is a lot hotter and the tip will fit but in that application it may not last long. They make a special tip for Map gas and you can get one of those with a new bottle at HD. Also you burned into your glass with those flying sparks. The same thing will happen to face shield and/or safety glasses or any glass. I have a very expensive pair of ray bans that I learned that on one day when I was too lazy to change them.
Your burner might work a lot better if it is pointed up some and more towards the center. Instead of the gas just blasting into the wall you want to make it spin around inside.
Crap. Will pull the car out in future.
I may try mapp... I bought some once but it leaked out overnight when that tip was screwed on. Hate to think what a spark in the garage could have done at that time!
As for the angle of the dangle, I'll have to play with it a bit more. The flame comes in toward the front and slightly upward but not quite enough to swirl, I guess.
As for the windshield......The metal is embedded in the glass and you can carefully scrape it off with a razor blade. The pits will remain but it will not be as obvious then.
