Sanding antique scales
I got a Max Voos Flic today, blade great (FACTORY EDGE!!!!) scales are yellowed a bit, and have some stains and such.
I was wondering how does old plastics (celuloid bakalite ect.) take to sanding/steel wool?
any other solutions to clean them up?

I found Crest " Complete" toothpaste seems to do a good job on scales and blades. Any clear toothpaste probably would work as well. I got a sample and used it on a couple straights and safety razors. I use a toothbrush or a cheap 1" paint brush cut to about 5/8ths in length and inside the scales and around the pins and just a tad of paste on finger and thumb to polish all to a sheen. YMMV, I've been doing such things for years. There are a lot of products to do the job, I like cheap. "Maas" is expensive but lasts forever and washes off readily.. Headlight lens cleaners and other products work well
I like something I can rinse off completely.
Remember a polish does not polish till it is almost completely dry. The wet paste application is to dissolve and loosen the crud,

ohh, ya its worth a shot. might try some baking soda too, ive used that as a rust remover as well.
Although, i got some maas polish today, should be able to do a mirror polish on my straights.Last edited by Daekkon; 10-24-2013 at 10:42 PM.
