Love those scales! Great job! I'm guessing that is a Double Duck Satin Wedge? I have one, not near as pretty but a fine shaver.

Yep 2 layers of tape to start on that wedge is what I did as I recall. Your bevel looks mighty tall.
The over sanding may be why. Is that what you were pointing at? More tape might help reduce it.
The Geometry has changed, ooops.
Agreed! Unfortunately I've been there - a hard fight to lose the pitting, and after it looks great, come to find the angle between spine and edge has decreased - and the bevel then gets larger. But that's cosmetics. The real problem for me was that with the new angle, there's no way for the hone to hit the edge of the original bevel. So a new bevel is needed, hence the 2 or 3 pieces of tape and a long time on a low grit hone. That's been my experience anyway, hope it helps.
Just doing some thinking here, not all this particularly applies to this one razor, but it got me thinking :hmmm:
I would have to guess the heel is part of where the honing issue came from..
In theory going down is size ie: 5/8 ---> 9/16 should actually make for a higher, steeper, smaller bevel, sanding on the spine while restoring would drop that so it is closer to normal again.. So it should have been close to factory when all said an done.. But we have to take into account the added thickness of the steel as we go higher into the belly of the blade, this is exacerbated by the fact it is a wedgey blade.. Now add in the fact that we sanded or buffed and that could also create more unevenness in the actual thickness of the steel at the bevel point..
So we have 5 separate factors coming together many of which are out of our control to make this a nightmare honing job :( Sorry I started thinking about all the separate factors that become involved here :) (have to remember all that next time some body says "Honing ain't rocket science" ) :rofl2:
When you start looking at all that I think it came out rather well :)
Yeah it's not like it's hideous looking, and how does it shave ?
I was using 1 tape, then went to 2.
5 hours and i gave up. Ill try 3 later.
