A good read and it makes sence. Thanks Tom. I do ok with wood. Well, most of the time, but im no metal guy. I did learn to weld exhaust pipe when i was young but never really played with steel much. This is one of the reasons i keep telling myself i dont NEED to buy that 2x70 belt sander. If a blade is that far gone i will send it out or get rid of it.

I will try this annealing. Its just a matter of getting the pin to the right length and pulling it out again before pinning. A little extra time is all and it may make my peens look better.

    It's just Sharpening, right?

Jerry, annealing brass doesn’t take much heat nor duration. At 900f brass is more or less instantly annealed. When I anneal the necks of my brass cases I generally do about 600f for a few seconds. Softens right up. Like Richard said a cigarette lighter is enough. Dunking in water will stop the heat from creeping down the pin but a heat sink like fitted pliers should do the same thing.

Yes, Brass is usually easy. In working on some old engines, running a torch over the head-gasket and dropping it into water renders it better than anything you can buy.

You can even anneal your drain-plug gasket too! As long as it is brass, copper.

My friend Kevin (Splashone) owns and maintains his own airplane and he anneals the gaskets under the spark plugs--I 'Think' that they are copper if memory serves.

The all-consuming consumers must be accommodated.
At any price? I gave no quote. This is a job I should have declined.

    Or not?

3 inch lift for a ferking horse trailer.....

Ridiculous amount of grinding. 3 Floor supports to grind through, the 3 hangars to grind-off.

Got desperate and went to Lowe's and bought some 6 inch Norton cut-off wheels and adapted them to my 4 inch grinder. Coat, gauntlets, full mask. Better.
    Weldy-weldy!

Been wanting to do a gold paint job on some scales like Mike has done. Finally got a candidate at a nice price. Looked like it could be cleaned up, painted, and soaked in oil without unpinning. THEN I find a bug bite inside the scales near the wedge (facepalm).
