I like the pitting. Makes the razor look more like what it really is.. A forgotten relic that you saved from oblivion.

Great looking scales Andrew!
Looks like it says is a George wosti. Celebrated, from Washington works, on my screen.
Nice razor, sweet shoulder less sweep..
..just finished,.. took me a while,.. it took me a while to make the connections as they have to be (angled, penetrating the wood but not going through on the base, and going through on top,... the main problem is I did this on my balcony, with a dremel, so it was a challenge for me (I definetely need a router) :D). the narrower holes asre for DEs, and the wider for striaghts
Wallnut wood, finished with oil..

It's a George wostenholm Attachment 234741 I think it's just heavily modified and not original. When I got it the scales where too big so I shortened them. And the blade is bowed.

No it could be all original blade. No marks showing fresh steel modification. Bowed?? Ask Harrywally about bowed blades their his specialty. Scales anything will do in a pinch. I have gotten scales that are made of popcicle sticks blended into full wood scales. Bowed blades happened more often back in the era.
Also it looked like it once had a barbers notch. Hopefully these pictures will show you everything I'm talking about.http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...f38adc1745.jpghttp://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...1720f35094.jpghttp://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...afd254ec2b.jpghttp://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...0971c97ffa.jpghttp://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...91b5c980e5.jpg

Hone it and run with it. Looks about right from here. I see then bend. Nice fit to these scales. How are you at honing?
I believe the skinny hone is the way to go with the bend. You angle to the dangle of the bow. Go slow and it will make sense. Andrew you want to add any pertinent tips?
see post this thread #2855
Yup, you angle to the dangle.
I'm not a honing expert by any means, but I've put some fairly good edges on warped blades.
With the concave side of the warp on the hone, you want to roll down with your hand. With the convex side on the hone, you want to roll up with your hand. Hope that makes sense.... if you have any major problems honing it, head over to the honing section of the forum and do some reading. If that doesn't help, post the blade and the problems and the true pros will guide you better than I can.
Thats why God made Mothers Mag.
Scratches are finding your way.
The other school of thought is 2 layers of tape and an uneven bevel if you can live with that.
It aint purrty but she shaves. putting your hone on its side and sliding down the rail if you will. Gives you a more even bevel along its length and bilaterally.
Bowed and skewed. That's how we roll! :roflmao
I think I finally have figured out what Gugi and Andrew have been describing.
My confusion is complete! :y
IE; Honing off the side of the hone on one side, swooping a smile on the other! :D
Isn't that sorta like honing a scythe?
Might be shaving with the bowed in or out side would be.......Touching it up would be.....
Same amount of work to correct the bad geometry might fix some properly instead of amplifying the problem, I think?
You guys would never get me to try that! It would work properly or it gets strung-up! :rofl2:
http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...c33bcdd1ed.jpghttp://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...c44ac7266e.jpg not too horrendous.... I think. I'll see how it shaves tomorrow.

Well how difficult was it?? And how does it feel to touch? Looks good from here
Still waiting for the try oil to dry, on the Garantie. But it should be the last coat.
So in the mean time I finished the scales for the Joseph Allen, and pinned it back up.

And it's hone time.

If you like bowed tangs.

Just having fun with edges. See my Scratch Aaron1234? Mothers mag its gone.
Lastly the bevel needed some love pre honing. When in doubt hone to a smile.
It was very touchy to set the bevel but once the bevel was set it wasn't too hard to polish it out. When I felt comfortable with it I ran it over my face dry and it felt shave ready but I won't know tell I actually shave with it.

Working on a Hayashi Diamond 5072 currently.
Not bad shape cept for some two tone fading across the covered tang. Not sure if it was from sun or cologne over the years.

Presume the tang was all black originally as were the scales. Any ideas on bringing back the black across the entire tang?
Thinking of trying this in some neat red horn material Phrank gave me to try.
Cheers.
Will try dat tonight Tom!
Thanks for the tip. I just happen to have a lil bottle of maas someone sent me last fall. Itchin to try.
