Thread: What are you working on?

I have no doubt that with a little practise you will do amazing things.

Nice set for a first. I tried it once. Mine looked like I had hacked them up with a hatchet. Guess carving is just not for me.

You do nice a lot of other nice stuff Jerry, and you only tried once.

I do still have another zet of your bone blanks. Maybe someday.

Shaun, are you using power gravers or hand push? Can you hand push bone and horn easily enough?

It’s all hand push. I am not deep enough into it to cough up the dough for power. Truly I need to spend way more time on layout and design before I put out any more money. I would really like to do some really cool fine boarders. I know you can transfer a lot of designs, but I’m really wanting to design and hand draw it first. Bone inks very well so inked fine designs are super cool.

Just getting set up for my first try with bone. Lee Valley has a sale on hand gravers for ues on slate. Looks like a cheap way to get into it.

I have not looked at the gravers that Lee Valley has for sale, but most gravers need to be shaped and sharpened before you use them. They do not come with the heel cut in them. There are a few good YouTubers with good information on setting up the heel and sharpening them. It would be good to go there and see. When I did the lines on this set, I inked them and I am pretty happy with how they turned out.

I am no expert but I’m happy to share the bit I have learned. There are some very cool scroll works out there that I would like to put on scales, eventually. Lots of projects in the works. There is also the rabbit hole of string and wire inlay. . .

Unspecified maker razor marked British Improved temper with V crown R . I should have taken some pictures before I started. The only one I have is this one from a listing that I can now no longer retrieve the pictures from.

It's hard to see in this picture but it had been the victim of a reg grind gone terribly, terribly wrong. Nothing left to do but try to save the regrind. I still have some work to do but this is where I am so far.
