i have a few honey horn blanks I would guess about 1/4in thick that is starting to separate in the middle of the thickness. My question is, does anyone know how to fix this?

My recent horn from masecraft all had this problem... It's called delamination dunno how to fix it besides sanding through it and using what I can
I think I'm going to try heating it until the horn turns a little gluey then press it real hard in a vice... I'll try it on some scraps first
Well then if that works, then how do you heat it? Boil it or bake it?
Dunno figuring that part out... I use a clothes iron to heat scales to flatten them out... Maybe it'll work in this case tooQuote:

If its 1/4 inch thich you will probably want to thin them down anyway, you might be able to get rid of the delam when thicknessing down, or try to work around it.

Contact the vendor and ask for a different piece...
The thicker the pieces are the more likely you are to have problems :hmmm:
I have to agree with baldy - fixing it is a lost cause. I had a set of scales with very nice "figure" that began to separate along the color change.. it was two layers. I knew from experience that horn is not porous enough to stabilize but I tried it anyway with Minwax Wood Hardener, hoping that it might glue the layers together. No joy. Horn flexes slightly in use and tends to break the bond. I had to replace the scales and used the good portions of the old ones to make a few wedges.
A quarter inch is a darn thick scale anyway so you might try thinning them as suggested. Good luck.

What some may not realize is that all horn has to be aged,fresh cut horn is wet,will do alot of strang things before it is ready to use.
Alright y'all! I think I may have answered my own question! I just wanted to share my experiment with you fellers! So today I took a syringe (ones I use to give my dogs their shots), filled it up with superglue and stuck the needle into where the horn was starting to delaminate and squirted all the glue in there. Yeh it was a little messy and yes I did leave a few bubbles but so far so good. I will end up making my other scale tonight once it really hardens.
Man so masecraft screws me again... I'm right at the end of sanding down my le grelot scales when i find it delaminated on the inside again... Between them and robsbits that sent me 11 blanks with holes or delaminated on the inside, I can't seem to get good scale blanks.... He did send 4 blanks that were useable so I have those... But now I gotta return 11 blanks back across the ocean...

Well there expectation then there is this... He says it's pressed horn and some of them have holes in the middle then looked like it might be filled with resin
