Next on the to do list till I figure out how to save the etching on my fat Masonic etched chopper I'm putting on the back burner.
Already hand polished other than a little time in the tumbler and now is ready for scales!

And the blanks I just cut and sanded to shape, figured I'd use the last of the poplar I have till the cherry Burl shows up in the mail!
Gonna finish this razor by daybreak I hope!
Staining the scales, hate waiting
Stain is almost done, just put on the third staining, bout dark enough to suit me, cant wait to get it finished, love seeing my work come together!

scales look great! The shape is very nice and the way the grain is laid out in them is superb.
not sure if you were just setting the scales up against the can for the photo op or if that's how you let them dry, but one trick I've seen is to make little stands out of heavy duty paper clips (or wire coat hanger) and stick the ends through the pin holes in the scales.
Yeah, couldnt find any heavy wire or paper clips to save my life though....all our hangers are plastic nowadays also *sigh*Quote:

not sure I follow... with a hollow ground razor, the wedge can be almost any width as long as the angle is correct. Wedge width merely changes where the scales come in contact with the sides of the blade and how well centered you have to set it up.Quote:

Gotta thin out the aluminum or get thinner stock but wooden core is pretty much ready.
Have you glued the aluminum to the wood core?
Not yet no...gonna find some thinner material first or may use some brass but I'd prefer aluminum with the dark wood, plus I needed to stain the wood wedge and apply the polyurethane first anywaysQuote:

I agree with finding thinner metal liners... much easier than thinning them yourself. You could always glue the liner to the wood, pin the wedge into the scales, do final fitment/sanding then stain and seal.

Waiting for epoxy to finish setting up, didn't clamp points good enough so it didn't hold so had to re-epoxy the brass to the wood wedge....gave up on aluminum and brass will look good anyways so oh well...stupid ocd

Yay hobby lobby had some thinner sheet metals! Now I can layer my wedge like I wanted
Thinned out the scales...pretty sure part of the issue was the thickness of the scales and not only my wedge.
Brass in .005 and .015"
Aluminum in .016 and .032"
Copper in .025"
