Will not poison you per say,But it will take out your lungs and cause pulmonary Fibroisis which after awhile will Kill you.
Wear a mask from now on, one hour? you will be fine

I figured ... but I feel pretty thick for not reading up on it first.

I wear a respirator when I'm working it on the belt sander and when I hand sand it's always with water. After an hour you should be ok...just take precautions going forward :)
Even asbestos will only significantly become a problem after prolonged exposure. One time events are statistically speaking harmless.
Always wear full on rubber facemasks that cover nose and mouth, with replaceable filters. Mine allow me to stack the filters. When I am just grinding steel, I use only particle filters. If I am sanding acrylic, I use a filter for organic and anorganic gasses, and then stack a particle filter on top of that.
Not the most convenient to wear all day long, but a must in case of prolonged exposure.
