I have seen some very nice restores with the dubl duck goldedge inlays transferred onto G10. I have looked for a tutorial, but have only come up with the finished products. I have a very nice goldedge with ruined scales that i will be attempting to transfer onto some tan ghost G10. Is it necessary to carve out every nook and cranny of the inlay, or can it be heated/melted into place? Any help is greatly appreciated.
Basically it comes down to one of two processes at least at this point in time ... Maybe you can help with a 3rd :)
1. The coat the back of the inlay with CA usually Med thickness and set it in place using scotch tape to hold it and then carefully remove the tape much later
2. Build a "Frame" using heavy packing tape, fill the frame with Epoxy and carefully place the inlay into the epoxy cover with tape to hold it together, and carefully remove the tape much later..
Years ago I toyed with the idea of using electrictity to heat the inlays and melt them back in, but never figured it out :(
10pups did a series on the ducks and some inlay transfer as well. If you look for his series on 10pups restores a reaper I think you will find some info and references to others. Glen did one as well previous to the 10pups one but i forget what it was called.
I can see the potential problem here being the fiberglass cloth in the resin on G10. Melt the resin but still have to contend with the glass.Quote:
