Restoring a Razor for a new member.

Mark Cantrell, whom is one of our new members, was trying to remove the scales from his razor that he bought off eBay. In trying to drill out a pin he slipped and gouged the scales which I am sure many have done, me included. He asked for help in fixing the gouged area and Lynn referred him to me.

For a reasonable fee I did the following: I repaired the gouged area as best I could and asked Mark if I could put CA (superglue) on the scales and he agreed. I put brass bullseye collars on the scales with brass pins. I also tried three times to hone the blade and got it so that it would shave kind of OK but not to my specs. So I replaced the blade with a notched W & B blade which was the same kind that came on his razor anyway except for the notch. This one he will like better as it does shave well and looks nicer.

The pics are: #1 original razor; #2 & #3 restored razor; #4 shows the blade shank and the bullseye collars with the repaired area just to the right of the collars; #5 the repaired area at the bottom of the bullseye collars.

Hopefully this little bit of help will keep Mark around the SRP forum for some time to come and also hoping he has a more enjoyable shave with this razor. :y :y

When Bill sent me pictures of the restored razor, I was absolutely amazed. My wife was even impressed and said it was really beautiful. She thinks I've completely lost my mind for wanting to shave with a straight and is trying to not be "an enabler" in my sickness. :D

Well, I received my razor today. Believe me when I say that the pictures do not do the scales justice. The CA finish is just amazing, smooth as glass.

Tomorow the blood letting begins. If any of you here screaming from the Philly area, you'll know that I nicked myself.:D

This is pretty much what happened. After my first shave without loosing any major body parts my wife relaxed. We had guest last weekend and she was the one who brought up my razor and had me bring it down to show it off. She has called it a "work of art" and wants me to buy a stand that will show it off properly when guests use the bathroom.

She was a little disappointed in the closeness of the shave. I guess I oversold her on how smooth it will be without explaining the huge learning curve. She now understands that it will take time for me to learn how to shave and pass her cheek test.

Again I want to publicly thank Bill for doing a great job restoring the scales and delivering a beautifull, sharp, shave ready razor. Well done Sir Bill.

I have not been around much but I am still shaving with this razor. It still looks as good today as when Bill sent it to me. I just want to thank Bill again.

Bringing back an old post. I spent the last 4 years commuting to San Francisco from Philly every other week. Obviously I couldn't carry my razor. Now that that project is finished, I brought out this razor. After a few passes on the stone it was ready for use. It still looks as good as the day it was restored.
