Hello:
I just got this razor and during unpacking and inspection it dropped on the floor and landed on the tang. I noticed this crack through the hinge pin. The scales are thin (1/8" or so) and appear to be bone or ivory. My question is whether there is some newbie applied way to repair or reinforce the crack? It does not go all the way through the scale and the surface is not displaced. Thanks very much.

I have seen brass sheet liners used to reinforce but that means removing the scales
Not sure if epoxy works but will wait and see what the experienced players say
Is the blade loose in the pivot now or is it still closing tight ? I would just leave it if the blade works properly and get to learning how to a make new scales and pin :<0) That's just me though. It does not look like bone or ivory (no grain to transparent) to me.
Based on thickness and the pinning, I would guess it's ivory. You could send it out to have it lined if you aren't comfortable doing that yourself. Probably worth the money you'd spend.
The blade is not loose and is closing just like should. I was considering just leaving it alone till it broke as 10pups mentioned. Thanks.

Yep I would leave it.
If the crack is fresh,before it gets mucked up with shaving soap etc,you might try wicking in some thin CA,may work, may not.
I was also thinking about asking my dentist if he could drip some of his glue in there and turn on the blue light. I saw that recommendation on Google.
Being that it is ivory, bone or plastic I'd leave it. If it was wood, you could use Krazy glue (has to be that brand). Just spread some on the crack and let dry. Sand it down and the hairline crack has disappeared. However, as I mentioned, I have only ever used this trick on wood. I have no idea if it would work on that material or not.
Yeah looks like ivory to me too and without unpinning you have pretty much no good options.
On the plus side ivory is fairly tough so it may survive for a long time with gentle use. Stropping is what you want to be mostly careful with not to put stress on the scales.
But it will either survive or not and there is very little you can do other than being relatively gentle with it, if it breaks completely you can consider repair - put back in place with CA and reinforce with a liner layer (many options there some better than others).
