axial movement about pin

I have a vintage dubl duck razor I am working on and I just noticed that the blade, when closed, can move back and forth length wise inside the handle. But, this movement does not occur when the blade is open. There is no side to side movement of the blade either. Any ideas?

That's a very common situation. Unless the movement is large I wouldn't worry about it. Probably the hole in the razor is worn so there is play there or it was repinned using a smaller pin. The difference in motion is probably because the pinning wasn't done evenly. A few taps evenly spaced around the pin might correct this. The other motion probably can't be fixed unless you repin with a different size pin.

Thanks, I don't think it was ever repinned. The blade realy doesn't move at all when the razor is open. When closed, it moves just enough for the top to cme against the back of the handle. The blade is well centered in the handle.

Then don't worry and enjoy the way it shaves. If you really feel the need to tinker, don't bother with using a larger pin. Just trim some metal off a piece of 3/32" brass tubing to make it fit in there and pin with 1/16" brass rod stock. That will eliminate the play.
