Really don't know if this will work on all bone scales but I have a set of scales that was kind of dirty looking. Now I'm not only cheap but lazy. I got a glass of water and put one of my Pollydent over night tabs in it with warm water and the scales with out the blade. it seams to have worked. the scales were clean and bright so I re-oiled them with the razor oil from SRD and put the blade back in. will hone tonight. Bad typing it's suppose to say cleaning bone scales.
I'm not touching that with a ten foot pole!

Sounds like a pretty simple technique. I might give it a go on the next vintage bone razor I find.

Hydrogen peroxide will do a great Job on Bone.

i cleaned some old dirty bone scales years ago and i've completely forgotten what it did - worked quite well though. i know i put them in a jar of something for few days, so i want to say it's either dishwashing soap or very weak hydrogen peroxide (that one I believe can make bone very brittle, so I'm leaning towards the soap).
what concentration and time of exposure did you use, I'm afraid it might be too much if I'm not carefull..Quote:
