There's an interesting thought! How would you recommend closing the pivot hole? JB weld, epoxy? I know a welder, but don't know if that creates too much heat. I hope I can salvage this guy in the best way, so I'll be researching for a while.
That may be. I always start high in the grit and if my progress is too slow I will drop down, how big of a drop depends on how slow it's going. The steel wool and polish is generally very good at digging down and just pulling out the spot steel, which is the corroded stuff. The steel wool won't remove any hard or healthy steel because it is softer than the good steel. The reason I start high is to not get the scratches any deeper than they have to be.
